Established in 1584 as a temple to ward off evil spirits from Kaneko Castle, it was relocated to its current site in 1689 to serve as a protective temple for Takashima Castle and as a place of prayer for the Suwa Domain. The original founder was Suwa Yoritsune, the lord of Kaneko Castle, while the current founder is Suwa Tadayasu, the lord of Takashima Castle.
