Atsuta Jingu is a shrine located in Atsuta-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. It is classified as a Meishin Taisha (Great Shrine of National Importance) and is the third most important shrine in Owari Province. This shrine has deep ties to Japanese mythology as the enshrinement site of the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi (Sword of Grass-Cutting). Since ancient times, it has been widely venerated under the name Atsuta Shrine.
History
This ancient shrine enshrines the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, one of the Three Sacred Treasures, as its sacred object. It is regarded as having the second-highest status and prestige, immediately after Ise Jingu.
Blessings
It is believed to grant blessings for the fulfillment of wishes and for marital harmony and household safety.

On June 5, imperial envoys attend this most important annual grand festival (Shabu-sai). During the day, various martial arts and performing arts are offered as dedicatory offerings. At night, a massive 'Ken-to-makiwara' (offering lamp made of rice straw) is lit, and fireworks are launched.
