〒779-0303 徳島県鳴門市大麻町池谷大石
A shrine located in Ikeya, Ooba, Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture. Within the shrine grounds lies the cremation mound of Emperor Doi, which is under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Household Agency.
History
In 1875, it was renamed Maruyama Shrine. In 1940, it was renamed Awa Shrine, and a new shrine building was constructed at its current location, adjacent to the northeast of the cremation mound. Construction was completed in 1943, and it was designated as a Prefectural Shrine. Following the abolition of the modern shrine rank system after the end of the war, its provisional elevation to the rank of Kanpei Taisha (Grand Shrine of Official Rank) was never officially formalized.
