Founded in 1878 (Meiji 11) as 'Chiba-ken Shokonsha', it initially enshrined the spirits of 16 individuals, including Ando Naokichi Moritatsu of the Sakura Domain, who perished during the Meiji Restoration. In 1939 (Showa 14), it was renamed 'Chiba-ken Kokugai Jinja'. By 1943 (Showa 18), it was designated as one of the official patriotic shrines, with one per prefecture. Following the destruction of its buildings due to wartime damage, post-war renaming, and subsequent restoration of its original name, the shrine relocated to its current site in February 2022 (Reiwa 4).
