History
The shrine was founded in 1457 CE (Oroku 1) when Ota Dokan enshrined Fushimi Inari as a guardian deity during the construction of Edo Castle. After Tokugawa Ieyasu entered the castle, the deity was transferred to the Momijiyama site within the castle grounds. In 1602 CE (Keichō 7), during the expansion of the castle grounds, the shrine moved to Shibuya Miya-machi-zaka and was named Chiyoda Inari, adopting the alternative name of Edo Castle. Following the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 CE (Taishō 12), the shrine relocated to Shibuya Hyakken-ten. Subsequently, it received the estate shrine of the Nashimoto Imperial House branch and constructed the current main hall.
