This Tendaishu temple was founded in 830 CE by the Great Master Jigaku Daishi Ennin. Since its founding, it has been maintained by local residents, even during periods when it had no resident priest. The current main hall was newly built in 1962 and was selected as an example of Modern Movement architecture in 2021.
