Founded in 1491 CE (Entoku 3) by Nishio Shibudō Eien on a hill overlooking the Kiso River, who invited Sōzen Dōshitsu to serve as the founding abbot. In 1676 CE (Enpō 4), Yōzan Taishun relocated and rebuilt the temple, serving as its restorer. In 1703 CE (Genroku 16), Seigan Taigin reconstructed the halls. It is also a station on the Ena 33 Kannon Pilgrimage.
