The founding date is unknown, but it was originally located near Seiryoji in Saga and served as a prayer site for Emperor Go-Saga. It converted to the Obaku sect in the 5th year of Bunka (1808 CE). Although it suffered decline and damage due to the Meiji Restoration and the Ise Bay Typhoon, renovation work was carried out on the Daibikaku in 2012.
