The temple was founded in 1882 by Ugajin Mikai. Originally situated in Oigakicho, Nihonbashi Ward, it relocated to its current site in 1892. The main enshrined image, Daisho Kangiten (Great Holy Laughing Heavenly Deity), was donated by Yanagihara Aiko following prayers for the recovery of Emperor Meiji's health.
