Founded in the Genki to Tenno period (1570–1592 CE) by the monk Jakuzen Shonin. It became the family temple (bodaiji) of the Abe clan of Oga Domain and was developed accordingly, but it was completely destroyed by a fire in the early Meiji period. The current main hall was newly built in 1983.
