The shrine's origins date back to the Enpo era when Toyotomi clan general Ichikado Yorimatsu invited the kami from Ebata Hachimangu in Kawachi Province. Because the initial relocation site was unsuitable for agriculture, following the advice of Takakubo Genzaemon, the shrine was moved to Okubo, Nishi Tokyo City, where it currently stands. The main hall (honden) and worship hall (haiden) were rebuilt in the second year of Ansei (1855 CE). During the Showa era, a mikoshi storage hall and a Kagura dance hall were newly constructed.
