History
It is said that in 724 CE (Shenki 1), fishermen pulled up the Eleven-Faced Kannon Bosatsu (Eleven-Faced Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva) in their nets, and Kukai consecrated the statue during the Kahun era (810-824 CE). From the Kamakura period onward, the temple flourished under the patronage of the Kaimon clan, and in 1591 CE (Tensho 19), it received a vermilion seal letter from Tokugawa Ieyasu. Many halls were destroyed by air raids in 1945 CE (Shōwa 20), but a five-story pagoda was erected in 2009.
