History
Traditionally founded in 811 CE by Kukai by imperial decree of Emperor Saga. It was later renamed Fudaraku-in when the Holy Kannon Bodhisattva was enshrined by the monk Fudaraku Shonin. In 988 CE, Emperor Ichijo bestowed the name 'Ikekyo-zan Enkyoji' (Enkyoji at Ikekyo Mountain). The Kannon-do hall was rebuilt in 1741 after being destroyed by fire.
