History
Founded in 1514 CE (Eiō 1) by Daiyō Shinpo under the name Fukumonji, the temple was later renamed Fukuganji by the founder Minakawa Ichimasa Tsūgen. In 1590 CE (Tenshō 18), Takase-kimi (Tengoin-dono), the younger sister of Tokugawa Ieyasu, passed away nearby and was buried at this site. Since then, the Matsudaira family has provided Buddhist offerings, and the Lord of Odawara has conducted proxy worship on their behalf.
