According to temple tradition, the founder Shunyo established a hall in the village of Nakamura, Aichi District, in 1386 CE (Chitoku 3) to enshrine Daikokuten (Great Joyful Heavenly Deity). Later, following the relocation of the castle town to Kiyosu, the temple moved to its current location in 1617 CE (Genroku 3). It came to be called Fukuro-cho O-Shoenten because it was situated along Fukuro-cho Street (now Fukuro-cho Dori).
