History
Based on the legend of Empress Jingū waiting out a violent storm at sea, a branch spirit (bunrei) of Ishizumi Hachiman Shrine was enshrined in 888 CE (Ninna 4). In 972 CE (Eihō 2), Hachiman Taro Yoshimune enshrined Amaterasu Omikami, and in 1058 CE (Kanchi 2), a shrine building was established and named Higashimuki Hachiman-gū (Eastward Hachiman Grand Shrine). In 1362 CE (Shōhei 17), a branch spirit of Kasuga Ōkami was also welcomed. The shrine buildings were completely destroyed by an air raid in 1945 CE (Shōwa 20) but were rebuilt in 1966 CE (Shōwa 41).
