History
According to shrine tradition, it was founded during the reign of Emperor Suinin. It is an ancient shrine recorded in the Engishiki Jinmyocho. In the 9th year of the Bunmei era (1477 CE), the shrine was relocated to its current site due to flooding of the Tama River, at which time Sugawara no Michizane was enshrined alongside the original deity. As the guardian shrine of the Futa Gosuku region, it is also known as 'Gosuku Tenjin'.
