History
This shrine is listed in the Engishiki (a 10th-century codex) and was founded in 765 CE (Shinko-Kanun 2). In ancient times, it was enshrined on Gaku Mountain to the east of the village. However, due to the destruction of the shrine buildings during the military turmoil of the Tomici clan, it was relocated to its current site. It is said to be the head shrine of the seven villages of Gaku, and in 1908 CE (Meiji 41), Michitakeshi Shrine was merged into it.
