It is believed to have been established as a district within the Takamatsu Castle town. The earliest record of the district appears in a map of the Takamatsu Castle town dated to 1644 CE (Kangyo 17). The district was home to numerous temples, including Koseiji Byoin, Shoboji, Muryujoin, Tokuhoji, Saifukuji, and Gansenji. In 1945, the Takamatsu air raid destroyed 100% of the district, burning down the temple complexes (Garan) that had stood for several centuries since the Edo period.
