The shrine buildings were constructed during the Tenshō era (1573–1592 CE). After they were destroyed by a typhoon, they were rebuilt in 1711 CE (Shōtoku 1). In the fifth year of the Meiji era (1872 CE), the name was changed from Goshō Dai-Gen (Five Deities Grand Gen) to Goshoshisha (Five Deities Shrine).
