During the Meiji era, as part of the separation of Shinto and Buddhism, Buddhist statues and paintings were transferred from the Honji-dō (Honji Hall) to Hoju-in. The temple suffered significant damage in the 1959 Ise Bay Typhoon, after which the Jizō-dō (Jizō Hall) and the main hall were rebuilt.
