Founded by Ueno Fujiemon Sadaharu, the ancestor of uirou (a type of Japanese rice cake), and established in 1522 CE (Ōei 2) by Nichiden, the 13th generation of the Hōjūin at Minohara-san. In the 4th year of Hōei (1717 CE), the temple received a land donation from Inaba Enō-no-kami Masanori, the lord of Odawara Domain, and relocated from Hayakawa-guchi to its current location.
