The temple's origins trace back to its founding in 1629 CE (Kan'ei 6) as the Kuzan-do Hall of Hyakusawa-ji, serving as the batten-do (head temple) of Iwaki-san Sansho Dai-Gongen. It was abolished in 1875 CE (Meiji 8) and destroyed by fire the following year, but was later revived by the followers of Hashiun-ji.
