History
It is said that in 655 CE (Hakuhō 6), the deity was enshrined from Usa Hachiman-gu (Usa Hachiman Grand Shrine) to the current location, and the shrine was named Hachiman-gu. With the establishment of Mimasaka Province in 713 CE (Wadō 6), it was revered as the deity protecting the southernmost part of the province. Along with Ichinomiya Shira Shrine and Ninomiya Chubo Shrine, it was designated as one of the 'Three Shrines of the Yuge District' and had 27 villages in the Yuge district as its parishioners.
