Hachiman Shrine (Suigamon)
本庄市児玉町児玉198
Located in Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture, the shrine's buildings and bronze torii gate, constructed in the early 18th century, are designated as Tangible Cultural Properties by Saitama Prefecture.
History
Founded in the late Heian period. It is said that Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and his son Minamoto no Yoshikiyo prayed for victory before departing on the campaign known as the Antei Rebellion, and upon their return, they enshrined a branch deity (bunrei) from Ishizumi Hachiman Grand Shrine. The shrine received the protection of Jitsukuni Kodama, a powerful chieftain of the Kodama Party (one of the Musashi Seven Clans), and was later revered by successive lords of the nearby Kiioka Castle.
