Hachiman Shrine
福井県永平寺町松岡吉野
A village shrine located in Nangoku Town, Fukui Prefecture. Its origins are believed to be linked to the site of the Shikinaisha Shrine listed in the Engishiki, and it has a history of enshrining deities from the Hakusan Shrine and Hachiman Shrine.
History
The site is identified as the location of the Shikinaisha Shrine mentioned in the Engishiki, based on the meaning 'the forefront of the Shibino region.' In August 1680 (Enpo 8), the deity of Hakusan Shrine was invited and enshrined. During the Kansei period (1789–1801), the deity of Hachiman Shrine was also invited and jointly enshrined. A portable shrine (mikoshi) was dedicated in 1956 (Showa 31), and the shrine buildings were reconstructed in October 1968 (Showa 43).
