Founded in 1277 CE (Kenji 3) during the Kamakura period, when the local head of the Shimada district in Igarasho invited the deity from Ise Chisui Hachiman-gu (Ise Chisui Hachiman Grand Shrine) to establish the shrine. It was formerly known as Shimada Hachiman-gu (Shimada Hachiman Shrine). The current worship hall (haiden) was rebuilt in 1662 CE (Kanbun 2), and the main hall (honden) was rebuilt in 1696 CE (Genroku 9).
