The temple was founded around 1604 CE (Keichō 9) by the monk Danshi. The lord of Odawara Domain, Ōkubo Tadachika, donated land and other resources to establish the temple. During the Genroku era, the temple received the Amida Sanzō (the three sacred images of Amida Buddha) from Kaikō-in in Honjo, Edo.
