History
It is said that the site of worship was established in 586 CE (Yomei 1). From early times, it practiced Shinbutsu-shugo (the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism). During the medieval period, it was known as Man-gyo Gongen, with Jizo Bosatsu (Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva) regarded as its honji (original Buddha form). In 1868 CE (Meiji 1), the enshrined deities were changed to the current two kami.
