Hida Kokubunji Sanju-no-to (Hida Kokubunji Three-Story Pagoda)

In 741 CE, Emperor Shomu issued an imperial edict to establish Kokubunji temples nationwide, and this temple was founded around 746 CE by the monk Kibi. It was destroyed by fire in 819 CE but rebuilt around 855 CE. The main hall was reconstructed during the Muromachi period. After being destroyed by military fires in 1585, the Three-Story Pagoda was rebuilt in 1615. The current pagoda was reconstructed in 1821 after collapsing during a violent storm in 1791.
