History
In 1141, Hida-no-kami Heijisuke invited the deity from Hie Shrine in Omi Province and established the shrine near Sanbutsuji Castle. In 1605, Kanamori Nagachika relocated it to its current location as the Chingoshin (guardian deity) of Takayama Castle. In 1869, it was renamed Hie Shrine due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism.
