History
During the Kanbun era, the deity Hie Daijin (the Great Deity of Hie) from Sakamoto in Omi Province was invited to the site, and the shrine was established as a local tutelary deity (Ujigami) on the banks of the Takutogawa River. In 1880 (Meiji 13), the shrine was relocated to its current location to avoid flood damage caused by heavy rains. The following year, it received a donated plaque from Maeda Naoyasu, the lord of the Kaga Domain. Currently, the shrine follows Ise Jingu (Ise Grand Shrine) as its head shrine and belongs to the Association of Shinto Shrines.
