On February 18, 1288 CE (Sho-o 1), the shrine was founded in the Higashi-Fuda area after a spiritual dream by the priest Hoin Zenkai led to the enshrinement of a fragment of the spirit from Kitano Tenmangu. It is said that during the era of the former priest Ho-in Shosen, the shrine was located north of its current site. Over its long history, it has been affectionately known as the Tenjin-sama (Tenjin deity) of Higashi-Fuda.
