History
The shrine originated in 1398 CE (Ōei 5) when the 'Guzane Tenno-sha' (Shrine of the Ox-Head Heavenly King) was established as the guardian shrine of Fumon-ji Temple. It was relocated to its current site in 1570 CE (Genki 1), and the main hall was constructed in 1800 CE (Kansei 12). Following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in 1869 CE (Meiji 2), the enshrined deity was changed from the Ox-Head Heavenly King to Susanoo-no-Mikoto, and the shrine was renamed 'Yasaka Shrine'.

What visitors say
Located just a 3-minute walk from Hino Station, the shrine is well known for its connection to the Shinsengumi. The grounds are spacious, and the large worship hall (haiden) housed within a concrete structure is a distinctive feature. The Goshuin (shrine seal stamps) are popular for their variety, including monthly designs and a unique light-blue dandara-pattern stamp inspired by the Shinsengumi.
