History

Originally, this shrine was a subsidiary shrine within the precincts of Ohama Shrine, which is listed in the Engishiki (a 10th-century codex). In April of the 15th year of Tensho (1587 CE), it was relocated and rebuilt at this site from Ohama Shrine. In the 41st year of Meiji (1908 CE), it merged with the village shrine Hachiman Shrine located in Tankama, Asakawa Village, and was relocated and rebuilt at its current location in September of the same year. In the 43rd year of Meiji (1910 CE), it was designated as a shrine eligible to receive offerings of food and cloth for the gods.
