In gratitude for the recovery of Tokugawa Iemitsu from illness, the temple was granted the name Hiratsuka-yama Jōkandera Anrakuin. However, it was separated from Hiratsuka Shrine during the Meiji era due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism.
