History
The temple originated from a thatched hut established in 1294 CE (Eiun 2) by Renge Ajari Nichi, who was prevented from setting sail for the land of the Ezo. In 1750 CE (Keian 3), Nichiju from Myokenji in Kyoto restored the hut. In 1664 CE (Kanbun 4), it was relocated to its current site and named Rengeji. It burned down in 1910 CE (Meiji 43) but was rebuilt in 1927 CE (Showa 2) using reinforced concrete. It was also used as a temporary office for the Aomori City Government after the war.
