History

The shrine was founded in 1689 CE (Genroku 2) through a donation by the birth mother of the fourth lord of the Hirosaki Domain. In 1870 CE (Meiji 3), when the Dai Gyoin (a high-ranking Buddhist monastery) was abolished, the shrine was transferred from Hashikumo-ji Temple. One theory suggests that the Wakagi Shrine within the Dai Gyoin grounds was converted into this Tenmangu. There is also a tradition that a descendant of the Sugawara family founded the shrine at the invitation of Tsugaru Takanobu.
