The temple's predecessor was Takahashi-yama Tamon-in Hogguji, a Tendai sect temple established in the foothills of Daihachizan during the Heian period. In the late Heian period, it was relocated to its current site as the memorial temple for Yasuda Yoshisada. The main hall was rebuilt in the early Edo period by Hoeda Muneyuki. In 1894 CE (Meiji 27), it was converted to the Shingon Chisan-ha sect.
