It is said that the temple was founded by Hoshu Ho'in in 1650 (Keian 3). Until the Meiji Restoration, it served as the head temple (Betto) for Nadoke-gata Atsuta Shrine and Fuji Daikongen-gu. During the Edo period, it was considered a branch temple of Saien-ji in Kirigaya Village.
