This Shingon Buddhism temple of the Chizan school is also known as Daiou-zan. It is a branch of Daigo Sanbo-in and served as the batten (administrative temple) of Oosakura Hachiman Shrine, as well as one of the Sakura Go-koji (Five Temples of Sakura). In the third year of the Eitoku era (1393 CE), the title was changed to Saimu Hoshu-in after the two characters 'Saimu' were added by the Sōjō (High Priest) of Hōboku-in at Tō-ji.
