Hosui-ji Temple
〒760-0017 香川県高松市番町1丁目3−19 法泉寺
A Rinzai sect Myoshin-ji school temple located in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, serving as the family temple of the Sanuki Ikoma clan. The grounds feature the Ikoma Mausoleum, a Buddha statue beloved by local citizens, and a bronze bell designated as a prefectural cultural property.
History
Founded in 1588 by Okawa Shobi in Udozu, originally named Kaizo-ji. In 1598, it was relocated to the third block of the castle town of Takamatsu under the orders of Masatoshi, the third generation head of the Ikoma family, and renamed Hosui-ji. Although it suffered devastating damage during the 1945 air raid on Takamatsu, the Buddha statue remained unharmed. The temple moved to its current location in 1949.
