The founding monk was Monan Sogan, who had a close relationship with Ieyasu. The temple later merged with a branch of Daisoji to elevate its status. It was destroyed by fire during the Great Tokyo Air Raid in 1945 CE (Shōwa 20) and was rebuilt in 1977 CE (Shōwa 52).
