It is said to have originated in the 7th year of Tenpyo (735 CE) during the Nara period, when the monk Tokudo, who founded the Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage, built a thatched hut on this site. In the 8th year of Genroku (1695 CE) during the early Edo period, the monk Ei-gaku, the abbot of Hase-ji, revived the temple and established it as the Kaizendo (Founding Hall) of Hase-ji.
