A temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect with the mountain name Kunlunzan. It is counted as one of the Four Bishamonten (Vaisravana) in Japan and is also a station for the Osaka Seven Lucky Gods (Bishamonten).
History
Originally one of the 37 sub-temples of Kunlunzan Houmanji located in Tennoji Ushizaki, it was destroyed by fire during the Battle of Ishiyama but was later rebuilt in the area of Namba-mura Nago-gai. During the Bunroku era, it was relocated to its current site as a villa of a wealthy merchant from Naniwa, and its scale expanded through donations from the Ikeda clan and the Nikawa family. The entire mountain complex was destroyed by fire during the Great Osaka Air Raid of 1945 (Showa 20), but the main statue was saved thanks to a fireproof storage vault.
