The following year, in 1939, it was renamed Hyogo-ken Himeji Gokoku Jinja due to administrative reforms and designated as a Gokoku Shrine by the Minister of the Interior. After the war, during the occupation by the GHQ, it was renamed Shirasagi-gu (White Heron Palace), but it reverted to its original name after Japan regained its independence.
