History
The founding date is unknown, but it is believed to have been established by inviting a branch spirit (bunrei) of Kumano Sansho Dai Gongen. In the 8th year of the Tensho era (1580 CE), it was moved to its current location and named Iimori Dai Gongen, receiving land donations from the Matsuura clan. In the 4th year of the Meiji era (1871 CE), it was renamed to its current name, and in the 7th year of the Meiji era (1874 CE), it was designated as a Koyasha (a shrine of regional importance).
