History

It is said that the shrine originated in 808 CE (Daido 3) when the enshrined deity was invited from Fuji Sengen Taisha (Fuji Sengen Grand Shrine). In 1180 CE (Jicho 4), Minamoto no Yoritomo prayed here for continued military success, and the Chiba clan also held strong faith in the shrine. When the shrine buildings were rebuilt in 1187 CE (Bunji 3), they were constructed to face Mount Fuji across Tokyo Bay.

What visitors say

Located within walking distance of Inage Station on the Keisei Line, this shrine sits on a hilltop and exudes a solemn atmosphere. There are many points of interest, including three approach paths modeled after Mount Fuji, a beautiful vermilion main hall (honden), and magnificent pine forests, with subsidiary shrines scattered around the area. The shrine becomes very lively during events such as the annual festival and Hatsumode (the first shrine visit of the New Year). Visitors should note practical matters such as the use of temporary parking lots and pedestrian bridges.
