The founding date is unknown, but it is believed to have been established during the development of the area in the Keicho era. Due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji period, Jizoin or Jiseiin, which is said to have been the bettoji (the Buddhist temple in charge of the shrine), became a defunct temple. It was designated as a village shrine in 1873, and two nearby shrines were merged into it in 1912.
