The shrine was founded in 1597 CE (Keicho 2) when local samurai Ido Eimon of Terikado Village, Taki District, Mino Province, requested a branch spirit (Bunrei) from Hiyoshi Taisha (Hiyoshi Grand Shrine) to be enshrined. It was designated a Mura-ya (village shrine) in 1873 CE (Meiji 6). After World War II, it was classified as a Ginpisha (silver coin shrine) and later a Kinpisha (gold coin shrine). Additionally, Meitoku Inari Shrine was formerly located within the precincts but relocated and became independent in 1923 CE (Taisho 12).
